The Edit menu

The edit menu in AskiaDesign contains the following commands:

Command Name Description

Undo

Reverse an action you carried out. You can repeat the undo command to reverse multiple successive actions.

You can also click undo_button in the toolbar.

Redo

Reverse the last undo action you carried out. You can repeat the undo command to reverse multiple successive undo actions.

You can also click redo_button in the toolbar.

Cut

Remove the selected element and place it on the clipboard.

You can also click cut in the toolbar.

Copy

Copy the selected element to the clipboard (without removing it).

You can also click COPY in the toolbar.

Paste

Paste an element from the clipboard.

You can also click paste in the toolbar.

Paste structure

Allows you to impose the structure of a previously-copied question onto the selected question. This is particularly useful when you often use similar questions, as you can prepare template questions in the library which can then be pasted into your questionnaire.

This command is available only in question mode.

Paste presentation

Pastes the presentation, layout and properties based on the previously copied element(s).

This command is available only in screen mode.

Insert label

Inserts an extra label on the current screen.

This command is available only in screen mode.

Insert a question label

Re-inserts, after it has been deleted from the screen, the selected elements' parent element containing its variable's long caption.

This command is available only in screen mode.

Insert action button

Inserts a "submit" button, on the current screen.

This command is available only in screen mode.

Insert a sound broadcast control

Inserts a sound file on the current screen. This allows you to play a sound clip to a respondent during fieldwork. The sound clip must be in WAV format. To select the particular sound clip, right-click the sound control and select properties. In the general tab, edit the caption property to match the filename of the WAV file you want to play. The sound file should be present in the same folder as the QES file.

This command is available only in screen mode.

Insert a modality filter

Inserts an edit modality filter on the current screen, which allows the agent or respondent to search the response list, which is then filtered according to the text they enter. In screen mode, apply the layout list box to your responses (in the layout menu, click styles, then list box), and then select insert a modality filter from the edit menu.

This command is available only in screen mode.

Delete

Deletes the selected element(s).

This command is available only in screen mode.

Find and replace...

Use this function to quickly find and/or replace questions or modalities in your questionnaire, based on text in those questions or modalities. .

This command is available only in question mode.

Languages...

Allows you to add a language to your survey, or choose the default language.

You can also click  in the toolbar.

Select all controls of question

Select, in one click, all the cells pertaining to the same variable as that of the currently selected cell(s).

This command is available only in question mode.

Select all

Select all elements on the current screen.

This command is available only in question mode.

Properties

Displays the selected elements' properties sheet.

You can also click  in the toolbar.

This command is available only in screen mode.

Error messages...

Allows you to edit and review and/or translate the system error messages for this questionnaire

This command is available only in question and routing modes.

Scenarios....

Allows you to manage and administrate the questionnaire's scenarios (versions). A questionnaire can contain several scenarios to accommodate various 'categories' of respondents, or to allow the survey to span several fieldwork waves.

This command is available only in question and routing modes.

Prior to version 5.4.6.0, this command was named Versions...

Number questions...

Allows you to automatically add numbering to the long captions (and short captions, if they are used) in your questionnaire. Each question is allocated a number in sequence, starting at 1.

This command is available only in question mode.

Hierarchy... Allows you to restructure your questionnaire by recreating the hierarchy of an imported file (e.g. in triple-S or SAV formats).

Add to library

Allows you to add the selected variable to the library.

This command is available only in question and routing modes.

Read from library...

Displays the contents of the library, allowing you to insert a variable from the library into your questionnaire. This command is not available in screen mode.

You can also click  in the toolbar.

This command is available only in question and routing modes.

Library Management

Allows you to authorize the use of a local library and/or the global library (network library) and transfer question(s) between them.

You can also click  in the toolbar.
