Scenario (version) management

Use this feature to manage the questionnaire's scenarios. A questionnaire can contain two or more scenarios in order to allow different sets of questions or responses to be presented to different respondents. This can be used to accommodate various categories of respondents or to handle different fieldwork waves.

Note: this feature was previously known as version management.

Each question, chapter, loop and response in your questionnaire has a scenarios property, which you can use to specify which scenario or scenarios it appears in. By default, questions, chapters, loops and responses are set to appear in all scenarios, so they will always appear unless you assign them to a specific scenario or scenarios.

The questionnaire scenario can be set during an interview, based on a respondent's answer. For example, you might ask a respondent what region he or she lives in, and their answer might determine the questionnaire scenario you use for the remainder of the interview. To do so, you need to set up one or more routing instructions, using the set current scenario routing action.

To add or delete scenarios from a *.QES file:

  1. In the edit menu select scenarios. The scenarios dialog appears:
