Routing mode

Use AskiaDesign's routing mode to control the flow of your questionnaire by creating routing instructions (or routings). To switch to routing mode, click routing mode () in the toolbar.

Use question mode to create your survey's questions and screen mode to design your survey's interviewing screens.

Routing instructions determine which questions and response items are displayed during an interview, according to the respondent's prior answers. By default, the order of an interview during fieldwork follows the question order as defined in question mode. However, routing instructions allow you to alter this order, or trigger specific events like displaying a blocking message or setting values in a specific variable.

A number of commands and functions relevant to routing mode are available from the Tree view context menu. Right click on any element in the tree view of questions to the left of the main window to invoke the context menu. The same menu is also presented when working in question mode. Options which only apply to question mode will be greyed out when accessing the menu from routing mode.
