AskiaDesign provides several tools to help you work on the layout of a screen, allowing you to change the disposition, alignment, size etc., of its cells (the elements that make up the screen).
The currently selected cell or cells are always highlighted on screen. When you select two or more cells, askiadesign highlights all of them, but highlights one of them differently, indicating it as the parent cell. You can apply the layout properties of the parent cell to all the other selected cells (which we will refer to as child cells).
Layout options are:
| Left | Aligns all child cells to the parent cell's left-hand edge. | |
| Right | Aligns all child cells to the parent cell's right-hand edge. | |
| Top | Aligns all child cells to the parent cell's top edge. | |
| Bottom | Aligns all child cells to the parent cell's bottom edge. |
| Across | This command evenly spaces the three or more selected cells horizontally, based on the position of the cell on the left and the cell on the right. | |
| Down | This command evenly spaces the three or more selected cells vertically, based on the position of the cell at the top and the cell at the bottom. | |
| Squeeze |
This command vertically squeezes three or more selected cells. In other words, any vertical space separating the selected cells will be removed, thereby being immediately adjacent to the selected cells. Depending on which cell is the parent cell, all the other cells will be placed under it. Note: depending on the parent cell, askiadesign will attempt to squeeze all cells according to the logical order implied by the questionnaire’s data-entry mask.
|
| Width | This command applies the parent cell's width to all child cells. | |
| Height | This command applies the parent cell's height to all child cells. | |
| Both | This command applies the parent cell's width and height to all child cells. |
The following layout styles allow you to quickly apply a standard layout to a question. Use the links below to learn more about the available style properties.
Using the snap to grid option enables you to ensure that all your screen's cells will always be positioned neatly according to the grid, helping you design a clean screen layout. Each time you move a cell with your mouse, it will move by sets of x pixels horizontally and y pixels vertically. The value x corresponds to the grid’s width, and the value y corresponds to the grid’s height.
To do so, in the layout menu select grid settings. Specify the width and height of the grid, if desired, and select the snap to grid option.
You can also hide the grid if you wish (to do so, de-select the show grid option). Once you have finished changing the grid settings, click OK.
