Creating custom CATI start and finish screens

It is possible to create your own custom screens to be displayed at the start and end of CATI interviews. These are known, respectively, as AskiaIntro and AskiaOutro screens.

To view an example of this feature, please see the following knowledge base article: AskiaIntro/AskiaOutro.

Custom start screens (AskiaIntro)

AskiaIntro screens are designed to display a question at the beginning of each phone call, even if the interview is conducted over multiple calls. A typical use is to display safety questions, for example:
Q0_intro : Are you currently driving ?

Routing logic can be set up to close the interview if the respondent answers "yes" to this question.

AskiaIntro screens are defined in askiadesign.

To define an AskiaIntro screen:

  1. Create a new chapter in your questionnaire, and name it AskiaIntro.
  2. Place all the questions that you want to appear in the intro screen in this AskiaIntro chapter.
  3. In screen mode, merge all the questions in the AskiaIntro chapter into a single screen.

Custom finish screens (AskiaOutro)

AskiaOutro screens allow you to set up custom code selection screens in CATI surveys. They replace the standard call code screen that the agent uses at the end of the call with a custom web screen. This screen is highly customizable (it can contain routing logic, ADC controls and JavaScript). AskiaOutro screens are defined in AskiaDesign.

For example, suppose that, after a series of questions, the respondent hangs up unexpectedly. The agent closes the questionnaire to move on to a new respondent. With AskiaOutro, the list of disposition codes that is prompted to the agent can be conditionally filtered down as appropriate (e.g. the "Answering machine" and "Wrong Number" disposition codes can be hidden, as they are not relevant in this situation).

To define an AskiaOutro screen:

  1. Create a new chapter in your questionnaire, and name it AskiaOutro.
  2. Ensure that this new chapter is located at the end of your questionnaire (drag and drop it to the correct place in your survey's structure in question mode).
  3. Place all the questions that you want to appear in the outro screen in this AskiaOutro chapter.
  4. In screen mode, merge all the questions in the AskiaOutro chapter into a single screen.
The question in the AskiaOutro chapter will always be displayed when the agent manually closes the interview, even when the chapter is set set to be invisible. When it is set to visible, it will be displayed at the end of the questionnaire if the interview is not closed manually. A chapter's visibility is determined by its visible during data-entry property.
