Using an external multimedia resource

It is possible to use a resource that is stored independently from your QEX file. You can reference such a resource through a URL.

Note: This feature requires an Internet connection during interviewing in order to display the resource. As such, we do not recommend using this feature for Voice or Face projects, as an Internet connection may not always be available during fieldwork in these modes.

To store a resource externally:

  1. Insert the resource (see inserting multimedia resources).

  2. In the resources tab in the left-hand pane of screen mode, right-click the resource and select edit.

  3. Select stored externally (referred by URL).

  4. The path field will automatically point to the original location of the resource. If you want to specify a different location, you can enter it here, or click ... and specify a file location.

  5. Click OK to apply your changes.
