Testing and Preview (askiadesign)

AskiaDesign's screen mode enables you to test a questionnaire and preview its layout. However, please note that the general layout for Internet surveys depends on the settings in askiadesign's Internet settings, and the HTML properties of the cells on the screens.

Note: To apply an Internet setting to a *.QES file, open the options menu and click internet options, then select the model in the list box and click OK.

Preview

Use this option to get an instant preview of the selected screen as it will appear on the computer.

Testing

Use this option to test the questionnaire’s logical structure, (the test will follow the data-entry mask as well as evaluate and execute existing routings), or visualize the questionnaire’s screen layouts exactly as they will appear on the computer.

The interface enables you to view and test the variables' properties, activated links, rotations, as well as the action of routings.

Testing in Chrome

If you have the Chromium browser installed, you can preview how your survey will appear in the Google Chrome browser. To do so, simply click chrome_preview_button when testing an askiaweb questionnaire.

Testing questionnaire appearance on different devices

When testing an AskiaWeb questionnaire, you can also view the questionnaire as it will appear on different devices (e.g. tablets and phones). To do so, simply select the device name from the drop-down list at the top of the window:

select_device_type_preview

You can define your own device types by clicking next to the list. The list of available resolutions opens in a text editor; you can edit and save the file to change the contents of the list.

Returning to a previous interview

When you are testing your survey, you can use the drop-down list at the top right to jump to another interview you have completed in the same testing session:

Testing in different browsers

It is also possible to view your survey in a variety of Web browsers. The right-hand drop-down list in the toolbar allows you to choose a browser; when you click  next to the list, the survey opens in the selected browser. The number of browsers available will depend upon your askiadesign configuration, and the browsers installed on your system. You can define additional browsers in the options screen.

Moving to another question

To jump to another question while testing:

  1. Click Design_ScreenMode_Screen_Testing_GotoVF when testing an AskiaVoice or AskiaFace questionnaire, or click Design_ScreenMode_Screen_Testing_GotoW when testing an AskiaWeb questionnaire. The go to question dialog appears:
  2. Select the question you wish to go to, and click OK.

Running an Askia script step by step to debug it

To run an Askia script:

  1. Click Design_ScreenMode_Screen_Testing_DebugVF when testing an AskiaVoice or AskiaFace project, or Design_ScreenMode_Screen_Testing_DebugW when testing an AskiaWeb project (note this command is only available when testing from screen mode). The debug script dialog appears:
  2. Type the script.
  3. To debug a script that has inline script syntax, select inline script debug.
  4. Click compile to check the script's syntax.
  5. To run the script step by step, select step forward. To run the complete script and see the result, click run.
  6. If you have found the problem, and do not want the debug window to appear again for this problem, clear continue debugging this routing. This is useful during a loop, where the window might keep appearing if this option is selected.

Testing on a different monitor

It is possible to view HTML testing on monitor other than your main one. To do so, in the program options (open the options menu and select settings), go to the testing group, and enter the monitor number in the option monitor used for testing. If you want to use your main monitor, enter 0.

Saving an interview file, changing the questionnaire and resuming the interview.

If the screening process is elaborate and you need to go through it to test your survey, you can save the interview, change the questions, routings and screens, and return to the interview in the state you left it.

If you do not want to conduct the same test interview again and again, click the new icon:

New questions and new loop items will not appear until you click new.

To save the interview:

Note: Importations or routings running ODBC queries will be executed by this test in so far as the DSN and database have been set up on your computer. Routings inserted for purposes of quota management will not be active.

An alert is displayed while testing the questionnaire if there is an error...

It is now possible to specify the directory in which temporary HTML are created when testing a web questionnaire. To do so, in the options menu, select settings, and enter the directory path in the setting HTML generation temp directory.
