Use a response block to present a closed, open or numeric question's response items in one control.
The response block allows you to easily determine how the controls of a closed question are displayed (i.e. as a normal question, vertical table, or number of columns). Inactive responses are not visible in response blocks. This means that the responses are re-arranged and do not leave "blanks".
It is easy to define striped blocks (where alternate lines are shaded, for instance). It is possible to place blocks relating to different loops on the same screen.
A library of response blocks is available and you can decide which one will be used (in generation settings, on the screens tab) when you create or verify the screens for a single, multiple or table question. Response blocks retain their appearance in web interviewing.
You do not need to verify your screens if you add a response or a loop item.
Library templates: Use this option to select, create, save or delete a template for the response block.
Columns: Specifies the number of columns for this response block's control.
Horizontally first: Specifies that the presentation order of modalities is horizontal, then vertical. Example for a response block with two columns:
If horizontally first is selected:

If horizontally first is not selected:

Show response captions in header: Specifies that the response captions are shown in the header of the table question. Examples for a vertical table question:
If show responses captions in header is selected:

If show responses captions in header is not selected:

Indicate width in %: Specifies that the response block's width is specified as a percentage of the screen width.
Vertical loop: Specifies that this response block's control is a vertical table question (select the short cut name of the loop). The associated max items option allows you to specify the maximum number of items that can appear in the table. Note that you need AskCmn 5.1.9.1 or later for this option to work. You can also specify the Shortcut of a numeric question to base the max items on the data captured at that question.
Horizontal loop: Specifies that this response block's control is a horizontal table question (select the short-cut name of the loop). The associated max items option allows you to specify the maximum number of items that can appear in the table. Note that you need AskCmn 5.1.9.1 or later for this option to work. You can also specify the Shortcut of a numeric question to base the max items on the data captured at that question.
Control type: Specifies the type of control displayed as part of the response block.
Table tag: Specifies optional HTML properties for this response block’s <Table> tag.
Top left: Specifies optional HTML properties for this response block’s top left cell. Note that you need AskCmn 5.1.9.1 or later for this option to work.
The appearance of every aspect of the response block can be over-ridden in a variety of ways:
For each element of the response block, the following properties can be set:
Font: Specifies the font for this cell's text caption.
Size: Specifies the font size for this cell's text caption.
B: Specified whether this cell's font is bold.
I: Specified whether this cell's font is italic.
U: Specified whether cell's font is underlined.
: Specifies the font color properties for this cell's text caption.
: Specifies the background color for this cell.
Cell property: Specifies the HTML property for this cell.
Row property: Specifies the HTML property for the row.
Code in control: Specifies HTML properties for the response block's control. The following cells generate different HTML control tags.
Height: Specifies this cell's height.
Width: Specifies this cell's width.
Act as an error control: Specifies that the cell's controls should act as an error control. This means the cell's settings will be affected if there is an error associated with it in Internet Settings (so, for example, you could add an exclamation mark at the end of the control if there is an error, or make its background red...).
