Use this function to automatically add numbering to the long captions (and short captions, if they are used) in your questionnaire. Each question is allocated a number in sequence, starting at 1.
If your questions have previously been numbered using this function, then they will be re-numbered to reflect the current structure of the questionnaire.
To initiate this function, in the edit menu, select number questions.... The question numbering dialog appears, where you can set the numbering options.
The following options are available:
Prefix short caption: Determines the format of the numbering that will appear as prefixes on short captions. NN indicates the position of the number itself. For example, Q.NN means that short captions will be prefixed as Q.1, Q.2, etc.
Prefix loop items: Determines the format of the numbering that will appear as prefixes on loop items. NN indicates the position of the number itself.
Number hidden questions: If this option is selected, hidden questions will be numbered; otherwise, they will be skipped during the numbering process.
Number indented questions: If this option is selected, indented questions will be numbered; otherwise, they will be skipped during the numbering process.
Number chapters: If this option is selected, chapters will be numbered; otherwise, they will be skipped during the numbering process.
Indent using hierarchy (1.1): If this option is selected, questions will be numbered according to a hierarchy. Questions within chapters will be numbered at a subordinate level (e.g. 2.1, 2.2, 2.3).
Treat loop items as questions: If this option is selected, loop items will be treated as questions during the numbering process, and numbered accordingly.
