Warning: we recommend taking a backup of your QES or QEX before using this feature, as the process can lead to questions or responses being removed. In this event, any data relating to it will become unavailable. If this happens, and you subsequently realise that you require the data, you can reinstate the backup you made.

If any changes have been made to a survey by one of your co-workers, in a separate version of the QES or QEX, you can import the changes back into your QES or QEX file. All new questions, responses, routings and screens for that chapter or sub-section are imported, and any deleted questions or responses are removed, leaving the rest of the survey unchanged.

Note: Questions are matched by shortcut, and responses are matched by entry codes, where present. If entry codes are not present, responses are matched according to their order.

Before the import takes place, a confirmation dialog appears, displaying any changes that will be made:

At this point, you can then confirm the changes, if you are sure you want to apply them (but see the warning below). Alternatively, you can cancel the import.

Warning: If any question or response is deleted, the data for that question or response will no longer be available. Therefore, you should check the confirmation dialog carefully before applying the changes. You may also want to do a backup of the QES or QEX before carrying out the import.

To import changes from another survey:

  1. Ensure you are working in question mode (click question mode in the toolbar).
  2. In the question list (in the left-hand pane), right-click the chapter or sub-section into which you want to import the changes and select import changes from other survey.... The open dialog appears.
  3. In the open dialog, select the QES or QEX from which you want to import the changes, and click open.
  4. The validation of changes dialog appears, confirming any changes that will be imported. If you want to go ahead and import these changes, click OK. To leave your QES or QEX as it is, without importing the changes, click cancel. For example:
