Options for "closed question using" imports
Note that all keywords, SQL queries and other texts described below are case-sensitive, so be please check that you have entered them exactly as shown.
Select the appropriate value to match the external data you are importing. For instance:
- if the external data contains the response items' text captions, you would select modality caption;
- if the external data contained the response items' numerical entry codes, you would select modality entry code;
- if the external data contained the response items' order instead, you would select modality order.
For example, if we have a closed question containing two response items, "GroupA" and "GroupB", we may wish to import each individual’s membership of these groups from an external database’s "Group" field, these having been coded as: 1 or 2. If 1 is present in a record, "GroupA" will be selected; if 2 is present, then "GroupB" will be selected.
If you import using modality entry codes or modality order, you can import multiple questions. Simply separate the values with commas. For example:
"askiaext.dll?action=newinterview&newspapers=1,3,4"
Note: Importing based on modality entry code or modality order avoids potential import problems due to syntax differences between the importing variable's response items' text captions, and those text captions listed in the database. For example, the Askia system will not validate the "GroupA" response item, if the database field lists "groupa".
