Fixed-length ASCII

The fixed-length ASCII format is a sequential ASCII file format containing data. Rows in the file are separated by line feed sequences. Within a row, the individual cell values and their position are determined according to a data-map. Values occupy one or more consecutive character columns, such as:

Examples:

We will illustrate the different ASCII formats based upon a short questionnaire where:

FirstName: is an open question.

Name: is an open question.

Title: is a closed question with three response items (Mr, Mrs, Ms).

Number of Children: is a numeric question.

Delimited ASCII (labels), including field names on the first row, would be as follows:

FirstName;Name;Title;Number of Children

John;Smith;Mr;5

Ann;Clarck;Ms;2

Wendy;Howard;Mrs;0

Delimited ASCII (values), excluding field names on the first row, would be as follows:

John;Smith;1;5

Ann;Clarck;3;2

Wendy;Howard;2;0

Askiatools exports loops according to the following procedure:

Loop: is a Question Table loop, containing 3 items.

Q1: is a closed question.

Q2: is a closed question.

The data will exported in this order:

Q1 / Q1 / Q1 / Q2 / Q2 / Q2
